Christmas Town: Busch Gardens

I am planning on taking a trip sometime in December to visit my best friend Melanie Quick!

I seriously haven't seen her in like 4 years!

I still have yet to meet 2 of her children and see her new house...so I've decided to plan a trip to good old Maryland.

Talking to Melanie yesterday the only thing she said she had on her calender was a trip to Bush Gardens.

"This year they are having something called Christmas Town" she said.

As soon as I got off the phone with her I googled Christmas Town Busch Gardens and was sent to a magical website.

I am officially obsessed!

O.k. so for those of you who don't know Bush Gardens is am amusement park that is divided into different countries: Germany, England, Scotland, Ireland and France.

Well this year after Thanksgiving they are decorating each country according to the holiday customs and traditions of that land!!!

Here are some of the highlights:

1.) Take an old timey Christmas Card photo

2.) Professional carolers

3.) Holiday Treats: Christmas Town Holiday Sundaes, Christmas funnel cakes, eggnog and eggnog desserts, special hot chocolate, other special holiday drinks.

4.) Christmas ornaments from the past and present.

5.) Penguin village with real penguins

6.) Santa's Workshop with real Santa and Elves.

Visit www.christmastown.com just to check it out!

Ice Cream with Sprinkles

I like my cones to have some texture!

Cheese Platters

I love cheese platters!

If I could I would eat them for dinner every night.

In fact there is a pretty good cheese bar in the Aloha Cafe on the ship and for lunch I have been eating fruit with crackers and cheese.

Delightful!

One problem: I'm pretty sure I could eat an entire cheese tray by myself.

Room service on the boat is free however they have a cheese platter you can order for $20.

Robyn and I really want to order it and share it but so far we have been too scared to do so.

Sometimes workers don't like preparing fancy things for other workers.

So I don't want to order it then have room service come to the crew area and be like "Oh a crew member ordered this?! What a diva!"

But I want the cheese platter!

It has cheese they are not putting out in the Aloha Cafe on it.

If they would just open that Whole Foods in Maui I would be able to create my own cheese platter.

But until that happens I will be daydreaming of cheese platters all day long.

Computer Games

Video/ Computer games have really helped me as an improvisor.

In some ways I would even say they helped shape me into an improvisor from an early age.

You see to beat video games you need to have good hand eye coordination but also you need to have some smarts!

Below are some of my favorite computer games that really help sharpen my mind.

Seriously they are all about memory and multitasking two very useful skills anyone can use.

1.) Day Dream: My First Home- This game gives you a list of objects that you need to find in different messy cluttered rooms. Believe it or not this game can be very challenging. They have a line of these types of games out. Look for Day Dream: Wedding, Honeymoon etc.

2.) Coffee Rush: Ever wonder what it's like to be a Starbucks Barista? This game gives you a good insight and I think the answer is STRESSFUL! This game is tricky at first. You have to make people their coffee but can only do so by matching pictures as they drop from above. Almost has a Bejeweled/ Tetris feel. And the customers are ruthless!

3.) Cake Mania: This is the first computer game I have ever owned. I discovered it at work one day. It's a great memory game. You just have to make different combination of cakes for customers.
4.) Dairy Queen Tycoon: I haven't figured this game out yet. It's kinda tricky. Basically the better you do the more DQ stores you open. The customers are hard to please and this is the first game where I have had to manage a staff of incompetent employees. The weird thing is that I've accomplished more with 2 horrible staff members than I have when I shell out the big bucks for 1 stellar employee. Is this game trying to say something about the workforce?

5.) Burger Island: You work your way around an island setting up burger joints and unlocking delicious recipes for shakes, fries, burgers and more. Very fun.

Aim to beat these games beginning to end.

Also most of these games will make you hungry for whatever it is you are preparing as a cyber cook.

Spiral Staircases

I love spiral staircases in the home.

Posole

Posole is probable my favorite Mexican dish.

It's a rich, hearty stew made with pork and hominy.

In my family we put chopped onions and radishes on top and don't for get a handful of Fritos and tons of fresh squeezed lemon juice.

The great thing about posole is you can eat it anytime!

I love having it for breakfast.

Oh and always serve with a chilled Dr. Pepper.

Can't wait to go home and have my Momma make me some.

Against Tall Odds

Jeff bought me a signed copy of Matt Roloff's book Against Tall Odds for my birthday.

It was my favorite gift!

I feel one step closer to meeting the Roloff family!

I finished the book in like 3 days and its a great read.

He talks a lot about trusting God with a plan for his life which I always think is such a good message.

He signed "To Jeannie All the Best Matt Roloff!"

So now I own two signed books: Mr. Roloff and Chef Ramsey

Bethenny Frankel

Last week I visited www.bethenny.com to check out Bethenny Frankel's site.

I really want to order some of her Bethenny baked goods.

They look delicious and nutritious.

Yesterday I went ahead and bought her new book Naturally Thin.

I'm really enjoying it.

I am by no means on a diet of any sorts and that is why I like the book.

Its not a diet book.

Its just her take on food and how she maintains such a great waistline.

Basically she eats whatever she wants when she wants it but stops when she is full.

Real groundbreaking I know...but in all seriousness it was nice to revisit this idea.

I lived in Rome for a summer and followed this principle: I ate delicious food and I ended up losing 5 pounds.

For some reason when I started making my own money I signed up for what Bethenny refers to as the "Clean Your Plate Membership".

Every time I bought food I wanted to eat it all because I paid for it and worked hard for that money and I deserved it blah blah blah.

The book is great and very comical.

Also it hardly has any recipes and the ones that are in it look extremely simple and worth trying when I'm back on land.

It's just nice seeing someone being so honest about themselves.

I feel like a lot of Hollywood actors want people to believe they don't eat or they want us to think they only shop at high end grocery stores and have trainers and we will never be able to look that good.

Bethenny proves this is not the case.

Say no to diets!

The Audience Wins

I used to always feel jealous of characters and actors in movies.

Every now and then I still do.

Take the other night for example.

I went to see Harry Potter....and I'm actually not a fan of Harry Potter but I found myself jealous of those teens drinking butter beer and eating all sorts of enchanted treats on what looks like an amazing train ride to a beautiful school.

After the movie I turned to Jeff and said "Do you really think they give the actors butter beer to drink?"

"What do you mean?" He said.

"Well I always imagined butter beer is like hot chocolate only made with butterscotch and caramel. Do you think they make that for the actors so they can enjoy the experience?" I said.

"No" Jeff replied

"Oh so its just like colored water?" I asked

"Yes" Jeff said.

"How much of that movie is CGI?" I then asked

"What do you mean? Jeff asked back.

"Like when Harry and Dumbledoor are looking out at Hogwarts are those beautiful mountains really there?" I clarified.

"No" Jeff replied.

That's when it hit me. A theory I came up with in college for my 4th year thesis. The audience is the one who truly gets to enjoy a movie, much more than the actors or directors or anyone.

There is no need to be jealous that that's not you kissing Robert Pattinson in Twilight. The feeling you get when he kisses Kristen Stewart is better than the feeling she has kissing him.

I promise!

The audience always wins.

Those Potter kids are standing on green fabric, drinking orange flavored water and trying to remember lines and act accordingly.

I am comfortable watching the film and taking in all aspects of it at once: scenery, lighting, music and acting.

So the next time you find yourself being jealous of a young Hollywood starlet who gets to kiss so and so or the next time you are feeling blue thinking "I'll never know what it feels like to be in a major motion picture."

Just remember in the end the audience wins and gets to enjoy a movie more than anyone else.

My Actual Birthday

For my actual birthday Jeff took me to a beautiful pool!

Here is a picture of my bday dress.

There was a jacuzzi in each of those while pillar towers!

Pasta Carbanara of course!

And snacks by the pool!

Some Good Documentaries

Now that we are done with The Wire....Jeff and I have nothing to watch, so he started renting some documentaries for us. Some he had already seen like this Wilco documentary:

I am not a big "band" person. I only like music where I can listen and enjoy complete albums like Weezer. Well Wilco now falls into that category for me. The lead singer is awesome and I hear he plays at Second City from time to time? Is that true?

Air Guitar Nation is great! I think its a little old but you should watch it at least to see C-Diddy, that guy is the greatest onstage character ever!

My Kid Could Paint That is a documentary about a 4 year old named Marla who sells her artwork for up to $250,000. Lots of twists and turns in this one. Very good.

Tea @ 1024

My closest friends all know how much I love tea, tea houses and tea parties.

I decided to kick off my birthday week with a trip to Tea @ 1024 in Honolulu, HI.

The conversation was riveting.

The clotted cream to die for.

More chocolate cake please.

Two lumps please Captain Closterheim.

Oh Calliope your eyes are bigger than your stomach!

Even Professor Benjamin had a good time.

When we got to the tea house we were instructed to pick a tea cup and a costume.

We each gave ourselves character names.

I chose Mavis.

The giggling never stopped.

My favorite sound bytes:

" Funny I never actually finished finishing school...and my father is Finnish."

" That's because I grew up in a mansion by myself."

"A lady never tells how many lumps of sugar she uses."

Bday invites

I decided to make my own birthday invitations this year.

For some reason I decided to put a picture of Kate Gossling on each invite.

They are so popular here they sell them in bulk.

Crazy???

The guest staying in this room have decided to leave their door open this entire week.

I'm not kidding you.

Everytime I walk by the door it is wide open.

I've watched the nap, smoke, get ready and sleep.

They leave the door open while they sleep at night.

Is this strange to anyone?

Lamar Odom

I've been meaning to write about Lamar Odom for a while now.

He plays for the L.A. Lakers and is a candy addict.

I love when ESPN does stories that have nothing to do with sports.

Apparently Odom has always loved candy and one day he decided to have it for breakfast before a game and did great!

After that he decided to eat candy for breakfast everyday!

I mean isn't that the dream?

I remember when I got to college I would frequently eat cookies for dinner.

Every time I had to do a cram study session in the library my friends and I would go to Newcomb and fill bags up with candy.

I also would substitute Frappaccinos and other Starbucks treats as real meals.

It was the greatest time in my life!

Needless to say after a year of doing that to my body I woke up one morning feeling incredible sick!!!!

My stomach hurt so bad.

I mean really bad.

I prayed to God that I would stop eating such bad food.

I promised him I would eat more vegetables and fruit and slowly but surely I started feeling better.

I'm worried that it is only a matter of time before Odom starts to feel sick but at the same time I applaud him for living life by his own standards!!!!

Dinosaur Nuggets!

They serve dinosaur chicken nuggets in the kid section of the Aloha cafe on the boat.

We aren't supposed to eat food from the kids buffet, but I can't help myself with these little nuggets.

They are delicious!

I am a big fan of shaped food all together.

Whenever I go home I always try and remember to buy a box of SpongeBob shaped Mac and Cheese.

I just love the texture of the shapes.

I'm not much of a daredevil but I am going to continue to steal those dino nuggets from the kids buffet!

Funny sign

This sign was found posted in Shuffels Card Room onboard the ship.

We talked about how we should dress in 17th century clothes and learn the game.

Guest Obsession!

Chicago Improvisor Tab Parker says this product is a must have.

She claims it smells like brownies!

Well Tab I am going to have to get myself a bottle to drink...I mean use in the shower.

Thank you for the recommendation!!!
